Landmark celebrates the 20th Anniversary of "The War by The Shore"

September 27, 2011

September 27th marked the twentieth anniversary of the 1991 Ryder Cup Matches at Kiawah Island’s Ocean Course. The Ocean Course, a creation of Pete Dye and Landmark Land, was given the rare honor of being named host to the event before the course was constructed, bringing even greater anticipation to the event that would be remembered as one of the greatest Ryder Cup Matches in history. Coined as "The War by the Shore", the beauty of the South Carolina coast was matched only by the drama of the final day singles matches that saw The United States regain the Ryder Cup by a final score of 14 ½ to 13 ½ over the European Team. Since, The Ocean Course has maintained a high level of esteem as one of the World’s best courses, and will host the PGA Championship in August of next year.
